A
modern renaissance man, Dr Moneim A Fadali, MD, MCh, FACS,
FRCS, FACC, FACCP, has published several books of poetry and
philosophy in addition to professional papers. He is a diplomate
of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the American Board
of Surgery, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons,
Canada, in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is also
a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American
College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians
and a member of the California Medical Association and the
Los Angeles County Medical Association.
In his book Animal Experimentation - A Harvest of Shame,
Dr Fadali wrote:
'Animal models differ from their human
counterparts. Conclusions drawn from animal research, when
applied to human disease are likely to delay progress, mislead
and do harm to the patient'
'The claim that we owe most , if not all
of our advances in medicine to animal research is not only
untrue, but also preposterous and absurd - an outright lie'
